q4 2007 wrap up

lol all business like. Anyway, a wrap up of the last few months.

I had my wisdom teeth (two of them, the lowers) removed. Procedure went smoothly. One minor issue was that my oral surgeon could not put in an IV to save his life. I had two holes in my arm for a couple of weeks due to him. Why he puts in his own IVs is beyond me. He had at least one RN in the procedure room during the operation. I had one partial impacted wisdom tooth and the other was a standard extraction, thus the operation was cheaper than I expected. Came home after the procedure, really not in much pain, just discomfort and sore and some swelling that went away after a few days. Was sore for a couple of weeks. And fast forward today, the holes left are almost completely gone.

I went to a concert on December 1st to see Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Devildriver, and Soilwork in Lewiston at the Collisee. Not a bad show. I was hoping Lamb of God would have a longer set. Took a bunch of pictures. And saw one kid getting pulled out of a pit by three security guards. He was out cold. Had the guy by the arms and legs and just dragged him out. Soilwork wasn’t too bad, though I don’t really dig the vocalist. Dez of Devildriver was really shitfaced. I don’t think he was really there, which is a shame. Disappointing performance.

I had a newspaper article written about my business and thus have been straight out busy with lots of service calls. Which is a good thing, as this year has been pretty crappy in the way of profits. I haven’t punched in all of the numbers, but I’m hoping this last few weeks in 2007 helped make it a good year. I had the news article copied and framed, as that is a once in a life/business experience. Something to hang up.

Been seriously considering getting a Blackberry, since I’ve been so busy, getting e-mail has now become pretty critical for me. Not sure if I should go with US Cellular, AT&T, or T-Mobile. Those seem to be the obvious choices. Verizon locks all their phones and makes you pay an arm and a leg for each feature you want to use. They don’t get it. US Cell has strong coverage, but only recently stepped into the Blackberry market and only has three models to choose from. Reasonable data and voice plans though. I’d probably end up getting an amp for my truck anyway to improve cell service.

For Christmas I got a $50 BB gift card (not sure what I’ll use it for yet), a new wallet with $20 in it, and this neat weather station. A real geeky gift, but actually is useful and pretty damn cool. I mounted the wireless wind direction and speed monitor outside on the storage shed on a scrap piece of conduit I had laying around. Works pretty good, just waiting for some good breezes to see how fast it will go. Has a serial PC link cable and some software to record the values. I can’t hook it up to my current computer since I already have my UPS plugged into my only serial port. The hardware says it will not work with a USB to Serial adapter either :( I haven’t hooked up the rain gauge yet, as it is winter and I don’t want water freezing inside the unit and breaking it, even though it is designed as a funnel.
I didn’t get anyone any gifts as I’ve made it clear with the family a) I have little money to spend on a gift, b) they are way older than me and have everything they want so that makes shopping for a gift difficult, c) I don’t buy into this whole commercialization that christmas has become, and d) would rather spend the time with the family hanging out. I guess I’m not feeling christmas this year. Oh well.

that’s pretty much it. Not sure what 2008 will bring me. Already starting the year pretty shitty, as I had to work today on this customer’s computer which got re-infected after I reinstalled it already. So there’s four hours of work down the shitter. Fuck spyware, fuck viruses, and fuck all these political ads on tv. Fucking a.

ALOL and WoJ….

Last night I saw Suicide Silence, A Life Once Lost, Walls of Jericho, The Agony Scene, and Absence of the Sun at the Station in Portland. What a good show. Walls of Jericho fucking owned. As did A Life Once Lost. So here’s some pictures of Candice from Walls of Jericho, who I met after their set was done. She’s wicked cool and has some nice ink work to boot.

I didn’t like Suicide Silence that much. I guess their genre is what you’d call “noisecore”? Anyway, they had some okay parts of their songs, but yeah it wasn’t good. The Agony Scene was okay, and Absence of the Sun was okay.

On my way home, I almost managed to get myself a speeding ticket. I was a couple miles from the tollbooth, traveling on I95 at about 80mph, cuz shit man I wanted to get my ass home at 11pm. Somehow the Statie either wasn’t in the vehicle (a decoy) or was looking for people going 20+mph over or DUIs or some other shit. Thank my lucky stars. I don’t need a speeding ticket.

Today I went to the state government public sale and picked up a HP Laserjet 2100tn printer for $35. The first one I picked up didn’t work (error light + two broken control buttons). So I returned it and got a working model, with free paper and the toner cartridge out of the original printer for free. w00t. Good for printing off manuals and other shit for work. Plus I got a lead on doing some contract work for Dell from a helpful fellow at that sale.

I’m gunna go pass out. Peace……

Mushroomhead owned the night… again!

Filed under: concerts, general, music, television — Tags: , , — Joshua @ 8:47 pm

Saw Mushroomhead on Friday night. That was a great show. I got home late (2am), but who cares. Here’s some photos from the show.

I somehow got everyone in this frame. Not sure how I pulled that off.
Shmotz has a nice Protools rig. I sat next to it and the soundboard. He was grabbing some samples of one of the bands that played before them. I don’t know if I’d bring a desktop Mac + LCD monitor on the road though. A Macbook Pro would be a way better choice, albeit easy to steal.
I also picked up a new computer chair at Best Buy for $130.

And I got a new cell phone a few days ago. A Kyocera K1000 made for Tracfone. I don’t really use my cell phone a ton, so prepaid works out nicely for me. Sadly I have to give up my 3watt cell phone amp in my truck, as this cell phone (from what I can tell) does not have an external antenna jack. I’ll have to instead get a wireless cell phone repeater and set it up in my truck. I’m debating about doing that.
