flood of 2005

Filed under: general — Tags: — Joshua @ 11:40 pm

So Maine has had a lot of rain in the past few days. Around 4″ of it. Couple that with warm weather and snowmelt = flood. My uncle called the house early today to tell us to come on over and check out the huge pond out behind his house. Here are some pictures.
I found the funny!!!
I started working on a new design for Nailbat.com. I’ll upload the test design soon.
Today, I had my first angry customer. I went over to this lady’s house yesterday. Her computer was loaded with spyware, mostly from Kazaa. So I worked on cleaning that out. Finally I told her it would be better if I took it back to my shop and worked on it. She agreed, paid me the two hours I had worked on the computer in her house. I took it home, defragmented, cleaned out spyware, virus-scanned, and applied updates across the board. I call her back last night when I finished; no one was home. I left a message. I called her again in the morning. No answer, didn’t leave a message. I get back from my uncle’s house to find a message that she is back. I call her again. No answer, left a message. I call one more time a couple hours later, finally reach her. I drive over, deliver the system. I get paid for one and a half hours work. She wasn’t too happy about that, even though I told her the computer needed a minimum of 1 hour labor at my shop. She pays anyway.
I go home, get a call from her an hour later. She is totally freaking out and real angry. The excel tutorial documents that her husband or son (I couldn’t really tell how he was related to her) needed to open tonight wouldn’t. She gets all angry with me over the phone, saying it is my fault that the excel documents wouldn’t open. I say I need to stop by and verify if it was my fault, if not, I would suggest to her a course of action. I drive over there, skipping dinner mind you, to find she can now open her excel document. However a few of them still wouldn’t open. The error that comes up when loading says Excel is missing a component. She had a friend illegally install Office 2000 on her computer before I was ever called to her house btw. Supposedly it took that person five hours to install it. Wow, just wow I thought. Anyway, I pulled out my copy of Office 2000 and tried to install the component needed. Nope won’t go. My copy is Premium; her copy is Professional. I uninstall her copy. Install my copy with ALL OPTIONS SELECTED. Wow, she could open documents. I told her she has to remove my copy within a month. Really hated to lend out my copy. Last time I ever do work for her.
