stitches are out!

Filed under: general — Tags: — Joshua @ 10:30 pm

I got the seven stitches taken out today. I’m so relieved. They itched so damn bad! Now to finish healing. Then I will see a doctor about getting electrolysis to permanently remove the hair in the area I get these pilonidal cysts. Recovery went a lot slower this time around. Very sore still, but very little leakage. Last time it leaked a lot. In two weeks I go back for a followup visit to be sure it is healed properly and to get the referral to the doctor who does electrolysis.
I’ve started doing service calls again. It’s good to be back to doing something productive. I hated all this sitting around doing nothing. I got bored and depressed easily. During my down time, I installed Quickbooks 2003 and started putting in all my information about my business: invoices, vendors, sales tax, etc. This program is great! :D Saves me so much time. One of my clients had a copy of Quickbooks Basic 2004 for sale, so I bought it. Need to be legit. Now to legit all my Microsoft applications. I’ll probably get the Microsoft Action Pack. It has all the Microsoft applications I need, and extra licenses to play around with the other applications. It’s a pretty cool idea. Hopefully, a good discount coupon will come out and knock the price down. $299 is a little out of my price range currently.
Current wishlist for my business:

  • Multifunction printer/scanner/copier/fax machine
  • Crosscut Paper shredder (preferably with cd shredding)
  • Office chair

A few other things would be nice, but these are the essentials I want to get now. I really need the printer, so that will probably be the priority now.

I don’t like hospitals. Too many noises. People bothering you every four hours to take vitals. Lousy food. Bleh, this better be the last fucking time I step into a hospital. Anyway, here a brief journal of what happened.
Got to the hospital around 10:30am. Filled out paperwork. Waited for them to get a bed/room for me. Then I was moved to a pre-op room, where I took my clothes off and put those dumb hospital gowns on. Then my sugar levels were taken. 96 was the number; anything above 75 is normal. I felt like I was tweaking out from low blood sugar, since I was not allowed anything to eat since 12am the previous night. Then I got the IV put in. Didn’t hurt as much as last time. Also didn’t bruise as much post-op as last time it did. I was a bit anxious at this point. They doped me up with something to relax me. Waited awhile for the surgeon to come around. Quick pre-op talk. Then they wheeled me into the operating room on the gurney. I was sort of conscience at this point, then the anesthesiologist gased me to put me out. About ten seconds and I was out cold. I’m glad they gased me this time. Last time they doped me all up until I passed out. I started to shake real bad and get the chills last time. This time was much smoother.
About an hour later (my mom tells me), I was wheeled back to the recovery room. I woke up relatively fast from the anesthesia. A lot better than last time. (see the reoccurring theme here?) I was given some morphine and a vicodine caplet for pain. I really wasn’t in much pain but then again I was still a little doped up. I also noticed at this point that I had a catheter inserted to relieve me. Not a pleasant experience I would find out a few hours later. Actually, it was humiliating. Fuck those things. I never want to get one again. Fucker hurt coming out. Worse than being kicked in the balls. They gave me some toast and a little water to drink.
I waited in the recovery room for a couple hours as my room/bed was not ready. Finally I was wheeled up to my room where I remained for about a day.
I really wasn’t in much pain. They did give me some pain medication as a precaution and probably hoping it would help me sleep. I didn’t get much sleep with all the sounds like the IV pump, these stupid air cuffs on my feed (to prevent my blood from clotting), and nurses bugging me for vitals. My blood pressure took a while to recover to a normal level. Normal for me is around 110 over 65. My BP would dive down to 85 over 50 and then up to 128 over 70. It varied and made me lightheaded. I also got really nauseous after awhile. It wouldn’t go away so they gave me something for that. Took awhile for that drug to kick in. Pretty much all I did was watch tv. Really nothing on the 50 some odd channels they had.
I didn’t eat much, but tried to drink a lot of water to help flush the toxins out of my body. That catheter though, wow, I hate that fucking thing. Anyway, I was released the next morning (saturday) since a) I was doing well, and b) my insurance company would only pay for 23 hours of hospitalization. Anthem if you are wondering. Most HMOs are crooked so oh well. What can you do.
And that brings me to today. Haven’t done much but sleep, watch tv, lay on the couch, and occasionally use my laptop. Today I felt well enough to go downstairs and use my computer. I’ve had about three service calls, all of which I had to let go since I am in no condition to fix computers. Figures I get business when I am fucking sick.
Wednesday I have an appointment to get the 4 inches of gauze sewtured into my wound taken out. I really can’t wait for that. It is really incomfortable and keeps me from taking a shower. I’ve been washing my hair over the tub and washing down with towels, but that only goes so far. Okay, probably way too much info here, but I don’t care. Just want to let others know what kind of shit I go through.

in other news, i bought star trek voyager season 6 and 7 so i have something to come home to and watch while i am laid up out of work for two weeks.
