good show last night.

Well, not the greatest sevendust show I’ve been to. But not the worst. Clint (lead guitarist) left the band due to personal reasons. Whatever that means. The temporary(?) replacement guitarist was named I think Cliff. I couldn’t tell how well he was doing. I gotta give the guy credit for stepping in overnight to play.
I tried to get a camera indoors, but they wouldn’t allow it, or so they said. Wasn’t much of a pat-down. I probably coulda gotten my digital camera in. However, I wouldn’t want to have been thrown out during the show for taking pics.
Some Aussie band, Boba-flex, Magna-Fi, then Sevendust was the order of bands during the show. Show started 30mins late, around 7pm. Got done around 11pm. Sevendust was on stage for I think 1 hour, maybe a bit longer. Can’t remember the order of the songs. Lajon wasn’t putting much into the vocals this time; he seemed to have a large beer gut, since the last time I saw him. Morgan put a lot into the show, as he usually does. He seems to be the anchor for the band.
Out of five stars (5 being the highest), I’d rate the show around a 3.5.

This is pretty rough news. I’m still in shock that this happened. While he wasn’t my favorite guitarists ever, he was still one of the best. He wrote the book on heavy metal guitar solos and riffs.
A few things about his death trouble me.
1. I forsee the media and critics of heavy metal blame the fans for being gun-toting hippies that kill people at concerts. Just the opposite is true. The concerts are a way to let out, meet people who share similar interests, and just to hang out. The media and critics will have you believe that it was somehow the lyrics or the music that lead this to happen. People take things into their own hands and just lose it.
2. Concerts as we know it are over. No more fun at shows. Venue owners, record labels, cities hosting concerts, and insurance companies are going to require swat teams on premises during shows. There will be strip-down searches to get into the venue. Cities will ban musicians based solely on their ignorant views on the music. All of that is just wrong and unfortunately will probably happen.
On a related note, Sevendust will be in Portland on Tuesday at the State Theatre. It should be a good show depending on if my ideas pan out as I described above. I was planning on getting a camera into the show, but that idea won’t work now I bet.
I attended a KVCS meeting today. It was more of a social gathering and holiday party with food! I got elected to be the new KVCS president. Should be an interesting role. Hopefully I will have time for it.
My sleeping pill is kicking in and I’m losing my train of thought. Better leave. Lates.
