Saw a hero lastnight.

Last night I went and saw the movie Hero. It wasn’t too bad of a movie. I only saw on preview for it and I could only remember that Jet Li was in in it. I didn’t know the movie had english subtitles and was completely in Chinese. Although I’m not the biggest fan of those types of movies, it wasn’t that bad of a movie.
I liked the part where all these arrows are being shot at this calligraphy school. That was awesome. I bet it wasn’t too exaggerated from what really happened. The opening fight scene in the movie was sweet.
One of my friends told me that Mardens Surplus & Salvage is suppost to get a shipment from a Best Buy in Florida that was damaged from Hurricane Charlie. I hope they have 19″ CRT monitors. I need a new one. My current ViewSonic E790 is about to die. It flickers a lot, has a fussy screen, and has a grinding sound when the screen has a lot of white on it. I’ve taken the cover off a few times and adjusted the brightness and focus, and also searched for blown or bad solder joints. I couldn’t find anything apparently wrong with it. I’ve had the monitor for probably three to four years now. I got it from a MeLUG member who was selling the monitor. I got it used from this member for $120, which was a huge deal at the time. He had the monitor he said about one year. The manufacturer’s date cooaberates his story. Made in December of 1999.
So I have priced out monitors. Best Buy or Circuit City seem to have the best prices around. Maybe SamsClub.
So my business has been very slow this last month. I am still searching for a part-time or full-time computer job in the area, but I haven’t seen too much.
New band I’m listening to: Chimaira

Concerts

In the past two months, I went and saw two awesome shows. First was Devildriver at the Edge in Augusta. That was one of the best, if not the best, show I’ve ever been to. The Edge is a small club downtown on the waterfront. Only about fifty people showed up for the show, which is great for me (not a crowded place) but bad for the band as they didn’t get more of an audience. I met Dez after the show. My 3rd time meeting him. He is such a cool guy; down to earth and someone you can talk to. Some musicians are so full of themselves that they forget who got them there: the fans. Three other bands opened for Devildriver. One of them was Magna Fi. Although some of the audience didn’t like them (their musical genre wasnt death/heavy metal, more of hard rock) I enjoyed them. One of my friends asked the lead singer (who also did some lead guitar) to play something by Van Halen. The guy oblidged and did this awesome five minute guitar solo. Wow, he had some talent. The other two bands were local, and I don’t recall their names. They weren’t too bad.
The second show I went to was Slayer at the Augusta Civic Center, two days earlier. Saw God Forbid, Hatebreed, Slipknot, and Slayer. My third or fourth time seeing Slipknot. I didn’t really like their set. They played so fast, and didn’t pause between songs. It drowned out the whole thing. Could barely tell what song was playing. Joey didn’t do a drum solo either. Hatebreed wasn’t too bad. Their pits were nuts. I didn’t stay for the whole Slayer set as I really don’t like them too much. Anyway, those were the shows. I’ll try to get the ticket stubs scanned in here shortly and add them to the gallery.

big update

So finally I’m updating here. I’ve had three lan parties at my house. Very cool. I think next month I will advertise at lanparty.com and a few other places online. Maybe a couple places locally. Went to a lan party in portland a few months back. Sixty people! Was very cool. The Waterville Crew (Jason, Ben, myself, Alex, Jesse, Leighton, and Rich) took home four out of the five trophies at the lan. Ha ha, good times. Last lan party at my house, almost everyone (only eight people) had gigabit lan (onboard mostly). Jason brought his kick ass 8 port Dell gigabit ethernet switch and we all hooked into that. Very nice speeds. Saw a peak of 60Mbit/sec off my comp. Not too shabby. Someday when I get some money, I’ll grab one.
I’ve started my own pc repair business. It is slow going as I cannot afford real advertisements such as TV, radio, or yellowpages. Still hitting the streets looking for a part-time or full-time (preferably) job. I’m also working on finishing this damn essay for college, which will give me credits for my job experience, computer certifications, and other vocational credits. I need twenty some odd more credits to graduate. I just got to commit to doing it. Lazyiness is a disease.
My basement is very nice. I moved my computer down here permanently. Nice a cool. Painted two-thirds of the floor. Will finish up the rest soon. I need to finish running data, phone, and catv cable. Then I can insulate the walls and the ceiling. Then I will panel the walls. Paneling is cheaper than drywall and a hell of a lot easier to install. Pre-finished too. Can’t wait to get that done. I also have to get some real lighting down here, which will involve adding a couple more circuits. Hopefully I can still get my co-worker to come and do that. I don’t do electrical panels. I’ll cable, install boxes, outlets, and switches, but not final connection into the panel.
I finally got rid of my MSI board after two dead rmas and no response from MSI. Total junk. Last time I’m buying from them. I went back to ASUS and hopefully will never have any issues from them.
Been doing a lot of administration on my server and melug’s servers lately. A lot of security patches to be downloaded and installed. Also doing more security checks, installing detection software, and all that. It’s fun, challenging, but time consuming. Two of the boxes are kinda slow through ssh sessions. I helped the developers of RootkitHunter add support for Whitebox Linux to their program. The developer showed me what info he needed. Two weeks later the update came out with support for WBEL amongst other fixes, addtions, and changes.
Yeah, I’ve got ensomnia really bad. It is to the point that some nights I only get two hours of sleep :-( Not much I can do about it. I’ve tried Ambien, but it didn’t work. Oh well.
Off to another sleepless night.
