born to die

Filed under: general — Tags: — site admin @ 11:34 am

sevendust/cold, tonight, portland state theatre, 6:30pm
im there!!!!!!! cant fucking wait.
i love sevendust. be my 4th time seeing them live. they get better each concert. so im listening to sevendust – born to die, as i type this blog. picking up shannon at 4pm (hopefully) and then heading down to the concert. she says she knows a club member who might get her (and hopefully me) backstage. i hope so. i’ve never been backstage at any concert.
my coworker came over saturday morning and did the final hookup for electrical system in my basement. took like 30mins. easy stuff. but i’m just a little wigged out about the breaker box. so i got three 20A circuits, perfect for a lan party. know to move all the junk to the storage room in the basement, put in cat5e drops, and insulate. then get a space heater if needed. cant wait. prolly be next weekend before i’d have the lan (maybe). it would be like a test lan party. see how many people would show up, work the kinks outta doing a lan party, and find tables.
anyway gotta to back to doing laundry. check back for a report on the concert. peace.

spring ahead of you

so daylight savings time is in 2 hours. lose one hour of sleep. oh well. i dont sleep much anymore. damn ensomnia.
last couple weeks i’ve been working on the electrical system in the basement. stringing cable, boxes, outlets. hard work i’ll tell yah. i dunno how electricians do that every day. 12/2 romex doesnt bend easily and weighs a lot. so three 20A circuits, 18 outlets (3 of which are gfci), then lighting i dunno.
the whole reason i’m doing this is because the gamers-utopia lanparty held at the hampton inn has been dying down. greg cant afford it anymore (stupid hotel charges $300 for the room rental). so i volunteered to hold the lan at my house. once i get my basement done of course.
need lots of power.
so i bought a 3ware escalade 6200 pata raid card off ebay. paid $42 for it. unfortunately, there were two listings for this card. i bought it from a canadian and got overcharged. the other card never sold and at starting price of $20. grrr. anyway, i just flashed the firmware on the card. running latest code is so nice. now i can test using unmatched drives (since thats all i have now – a 10gb wd and a 15gb maxtor). also supports s.m.a.r.t.
the whole reason of buying this card was i need better raid1 support in linux for my webserver at work. 3ware is the only raid card manufacturer to have full support in linux. redhat 9 and enterprise have the 3ware card driver built into the kernel so installing right onto the array is a snap. tested with whitebox linux on one drive in the array and that worked fine. now to test with two drives.
i also finished working on a client’s computer today. celeron 667 with 64mb ram, 20gb hdd, 48x12x40x cdrw, etc HP. not the world’s greatest system. i put a 64mb compaq sdram stick in it that i had sitting around. sdram is hella expensive now. check out kingston and crucial for yourself. so i will sell that and a d-link network card to the client since the computer is going to be used at a college in the fall. the computer had 20 viruses, 500 pieces of spyware, no windows updates applied, no virus scanner, no firewall, and was very dusty in the case. i finally decided to grab all their old data off the drive (favorites, address books, e-mail messages, documents) and use the HP recovery cds. that went quick and what a world of difference a freshly installed computer is.
anyway im tired suprisingly. ttyl
