So yesterday, I moved my server from one location to another at work. A 15min drive was required. So I moved my server without shutting it off. Alas, how did I attempt this feat? Well, with an APC SmartUPS 700va ups; thats how. Anyway, it was more than sufficient to keep my server running. I think it may have gone down to 3 lights outta 5 full battery lights.
After getting it all set up again, I was wondering how cool my system is. I need to get the motherboard drivers installed in linux again. I did run smartctl to see how my harddrives handled the move. I did bump my system a couple times, but no damage to the harddrives. One harddrive is running at 27 degrees C and the other (must be right above) is running at 37 degrees C. That is a little hot for comfort. So to remedy that problem, I’m going to buy two mobile ide racks to fix that problem. Those should keep the drives nice and comfy. Oh and make it soooooo nice to replace a drive should it die, or whatever.
I also need to get a cdrw drive for my server, so I can make backups to a cdrw. The cdrw I have in it currently was given to me, but the drive does not open. :-/ So I have to find a cheap used/new cdrw around here somewhere. I have checked HardForums, Genmay, Ebay, Pricewatch, and Froogle; I have yet to find what I need. Guess I will have to look locally. Anyway, I leave with these parting lyrics:
