So I took my Terayon TJ715 cable modem I rent from Adelphia to my local office to get exchanged. Mind you this is my 2nd cable modem, 2nd Terayon. I was told from Powerlink techs that there are many trouble tickets at Powerlink tech support about the TJ715 losing sync with the headend, which is the problem I have. It would just randomly lose connection. Very annoying. At least once a day. The internal web page of the cable modem stops working 5 mins after a cold boot of the cable modem. Adelphia did upgrade the firmware of the cable modem, but I didn’t trust it. They also locked me out of SNMP on the cable modem in doing the firmware upgrade. Yay.
So I know have a Com21 cable modem, model DP1110XB. It has 6 diagnostic leds, has a nice internal web site which actually works, has yet to lose sync with the headend (Modem Uptime DD:HH:MM:SS.SS 3:01:32:25.97), and has a very solid upload. That was another issue I had with the TJ715. It would burst some upload data, then stop, then burst, then stop… etc etc. This Com21 just loves it.
So I decided to load ClarkConnect 2.0 Home on my linux router too. Works very well. Seems a bit quicker and more responsive. Runs Redhat 9.0. Less system resources used. Hope both of these upgrades fix my internet problems. Man, I am tired of it. Especially hearing my mom bitch about the internet being down. Not much I can do about it; I’d love to fix it myself with the given permission and knowledge. Do Adelphia a favor and same them some bones.
I mashed down on apache and mrtg on my linux server last night and got a lot accomplished. I needed to get rid of all the virtualhosts in apache I use for every administration function of my box. Now I just do it with mod_alias and some directives. Much faster. Mrtg now graphs memory usage, load averages, and cpu usage. Needs more tweaking, but that is okay.
