RAVE: first off. heres my plan for upgrading my main comp in two weeks:
msi 865pe neo2-fisr mobo
intel pentium 4 2.4ghz C 800mhz fsb hyperthreading cpu
kingston hyperx 512mb kit pc4000 ddr500 ram
All for around $474 off newegg. Got to love it. Gunna be about 24x the speed of my current system. Prolly even more. I’ll try to get some benchmarks of before and after.
Well the upgrade went well for my linux server at work. The one thing that got me for like 3 hours was flashing the firmware of the APC #ap9606 web/snmp management card. I could connect to APC’s ftp only one time, and I didn’t get all the files I needed. It then locked me out of the ftp. I had to remotely upgrade the card from home where I could download the files fine. So the APC runs on the champion’s lan and I have a 2nd network card in the linux server which is now hooked to the champions lan. Now to get snmp going and then some nice mrtg graphs of the ups status. The ups will keep my server going for 55mins. Not too bad. The new mobile ide racks keep my harddrives much cooler now. Running at 30 and 33 degrees C or something like that. New cdrw I havent tested yet. Will start some backup procedures soon.
RANT: So there is a movie company shooting a movie in a town near me. The movie is called Empire Falls. They rented out this old run down restaurant and fixed it up to be the main scene for the movie. This restaurante happens to be on the busiest street of this town. So guess what. They shut the fucking road down just to film this stupid movie. I had to sit in traffic for an hour, only to realize I cannot get to this customers building. Fucking great. I thought this movie was going to help the town out, but it isnt. It is a dumb idea.
Bah anyways. Must think happy thoughts. Upgrade comp soon…..

So I’m going to be working on my server tommorow morning, from around 6am till it gets done. Not sure how long it will take. Prolly a couple hours.
