So I am mobile in my house once again. I bought a Dell 1170 access point, which is just a rebadged Proxim AP-2000. I have it installed downstairs in my basement. It will eventually live on my rack, but I need to get a 4U Flanged Blank Panel to mount the ap to. This AP has a very nice web-based admin page. I can configure EVERYTHING through it. Although it is just one slot, I still like it.
I really like how my network at home is set up. Some more tweaking to do; like take out the pcmcia carrier card I have in my linux router now and replace it with a dlink nic, and plug the ap directly into that port (thus becoming ETH2 on the linux router). This way I can segment my ap off my network as the ap can be a security hole. Then to set up ipchains to drop all packets which will force all clients to use a vpn to access the wired network. yay
